Modern Coastal Facade Design Tips for a New Build

Building a modern coastal facade is like creating a dream home that’s made for lazy beach days and sunny afternoons. But with so many choices, it can feel a little overwhelming! That’s where we come in—we’re sharing how we brought the classic coastal home facade into the 21st century with a fresh, modern twist. From color choices to materials that stand up to the elements, we’ve got the tips to help you create a facade that feels just as amazing as it looks.

SET THE TONE! CHOOSING COLOURS FOR A MODERN COASTAL FACADE

When creating a modern coastal facade, let your location lead the way! Take a look around for colours that capture the essence of your surroundings. Sarah knew she didn’t want the typical all-white Aussie coastal home facade; instead, she wanted to bring in warmth inspired by the beach’s sandy hues. That’s how we landed on ‘Pebble Bay Quarter’ by Taubmans for our Dream Home 9 cladding—a soft, sandy tone that’s perfectly suited to our coastal vibe. Bonus! Sorting out your external colours early means you can bring these shades inside for a beautifully cohesive look!

A FRESH TWIST ON THE CLASSIC COASTAL HOME FACADE

When it came to choosing cladding, it was a no-brainer! Cladding is the heart of any coastal home facade. While we’ve used James Hardie’s exterior cladding on plenty of our new builds, we wanted a modern coastal facade that really stood out. For our large, double-story design, the 300mm-wide Oblique™ Cladding gave us the bold, clean lines we needed, perfectly suited to a bigger surface area. For smaller facades, a narrower board can keep things balanced and just as stylish. Plus, this cladding is tough enough for Aussie coastal conditions, making it the perfect choice for Dream Home 9!

INTRODUCE WARMTH & TEXTURE

An all-white modern coastal facade is classic, but we’re suckers for timber details! We brought in warmth with an extra-wide Linear Entrance front door in Tassie Oak from Hume Doors that instantly sets the tone. The lines match perfectly with our timber-look battens on the garage door, keeping the look clean but oh-so-cozy. And for texture? We went all out with crazy-paved Enzo sand tiles from Color Tile on the porch—plus, they make appearances inside and poolside for a seamless vibe.

BRINGING IN MODERN FACADE ELEMENTS

While the timber front door and timber-look garage door bring a modern twist to the classic coastal cladding, we also introduced modern features that are perfectly suited to coastal conditions. One of our first decisions for our modern coastal facade was the roof color. We went with Colorbond’s ‘Surfmist’—not only does its light shade keep the home cool, but it also brings a subtle, beachy vibe that ties into our sandy colour palette. Plus, with ultra-steel metal roofing, it’s designed to handle the toughest coastal conditions, making it ideal for marine environments. This choice is as stylish as it is practical—perfect for our modern facade!

A modern coastal facade isn’t just about looking good; it’s about creating a home that works with its environment and feels right for you. Whether you’re infusing warmth with timber details or making smart choices with materials, this is your chance to really make the space your own. So, take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy the process—your dream coastal home is just around the corner!
